Braiding Environmental Knowledges Workshop

The purpose of this workshop was to facilitate information sharing between First Nations and federal and provincial governments on four critical environmental issues: environmental governance, waste management on reserves, environmental regulations, and climate change.

The objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Provide environmental information pertinent to Manitoba First Nations in the four subject areas (above), noting that information was provided by both governments and First Nations for the benefit of other First Nations.
  • To facilitate information sharing between Manitoba First Nations carrying out, or planning to carry out, environmental protection.
  • Ease First Nations’ burden to comply with some of the most common technical regulations associated with environmental protection; often required by governments.
  • Provide opportunities for relationship-building and understanding, primarily between governments and First Nations on pressing environmental issues.
