CLOSED: Water Governance Research Assistant

Summary

The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) is seeking to hire a Water Governance Research Assistant. The successful candidate will be keen to join our team to support the original research and dissemination of CIER’s Collaborative Leadership Initiative (CLI) project across Canada. The Water Governance Research Assistant will work with the CLI team to link our ongoing water governance work to the broader governance and reconciliation literature. The role of Water Governance Research Assistant is best suited for a motivated self-starter in accomplishing project work. We love people with ideas and the willingness and commitment to try to solve problems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct scans of water governance and reconciliation literature.
  • Conduct literature reviews on key areas of focus and relevant topics in water governance, reconciliation, and related fields.
  • Analyze and synthesize research findings.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the research.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to summarize research findings and recommendations for various audiences.
  • Draft articles and reports for publication to disseminate findings.
  • Provide additional research support as needed for the project.

Operational Requirements

  • CIER is a virtual organization. The successful candidate must have access to a secure and reliable internet connection and a computer with fully functional WIFI capability.

Skills & Qualifications

EducationAn undergrad student in their final year of study or a Master’s student studying environmental law or policy, environmental assessment, environmental science, public policy, Indigenous studies, or a related field. 
Experience-Experience in conducting literature reviews, qualitative research, and academic writing. 
-Academic publications are considered an asset.  
Knowledge-A strong understanding of water governance, Indigenous histories, Indigenous rights and title, environmental issues, policies, and laws. 
-Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office applications. 
Skills and Abilities-Strong research skills.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
-Time management skills and ability to multi-task independently with limited supervision.
-Friendly, optimistic disposition with strong interpersonal skills.
-Superior attention to detail and deadlines.
-Superior analytical and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities and  produce tangible results in a dynamic work environment.  
Nice to Have-Experience working within Indigenous organizations or with Indigenous Knowledge traditions.
-Knowledge and familiarity with the First Nations principles of ownership, control, access, and possession (OCAP). 
-Experience working with Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
