CIER’s ongoing partnership with Earth Rangers continues with Project 2050: Climate-friendly habits to change the world.
This project gives kids aged 6 to 12 a fun way to help meet Canada’s goal of reducing emissions and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Using the Earth Rangers app, kids can create their own avatars and earn points by participating in environmental actions and community climate challenges.
The newest challenge, The Big Splash, is all about water and climate change. This challenge features eight new habits for kids to practice to help Earth Rangers reach their community goal of 120,000 climate-friendly habits logged.
The challenge also provides educational tools and resources with simple facts about oceans, fresh water, and climate change to teach them about the importance of protecting water. The habits in this challenge are:
- Seaweed Supper: Enjoy a meatless meal to conserve water associated with producing meats.
- Doing Dishes for the Fishes: Mind how much water you use while doing dishes.
- A Winning Grin: Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth.
- Shower Power: Take shorter showers to conserve water.
- Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away: Collect and reuse rainwater for other purposes, like watering indoor plants.
- Drip Detective: Report leaking taps to adults.
- Smartest Fish in the Sea: Learn something new about how climate change affects water.
- One Cool Washer: Use cold water to do laundry.
The Big Splash Challenge is only for a limited time! To get involved, check out Project 2050 here.
