The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) invites applicants for the position of Biodiversity Project Manager. The role of Project Manager is best suited for an individual that is able to work closely and collaboratively in a team setting and also is a motivated self-starter in accomplishing project work.

As a national First Nation directed environmental non-profit organization with charitable status, CIER’s mission is to work in partnership with Indigenous nations to support and build sustainable Indigenous communities and a healthy environment. We conduct research and provide training to build sustainable communities and protect lands and waters. CIER is very interested in people with a background that reflects decolonization and community empowerment, and who are comfortable working with a team with people of diverse backgrounds. As an organisation, we work towards reconciliation with Indigenous Nations and non-Indigenous allies. We are a team of like-minded individuals who strive to build environmental capacity in and with Indigenous community partners. CIER personnel often work in a virtual office setting. This position might include travelling to remote communities.

Essential Skills

• Strong understanding of Indigenous histories, environmental issues, policy and laws
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal – the ability to relay technical information in plain language is a strong asset
• Excellent facilitation skills, experience facilitating in an Indigenous community is an asset
• Friendly, optimistic disposition with strong interpersonal skills
• Superior attention to detail and deadlines
• Superior analytical and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities and produce tangible results in a dynamic work environment
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office applications
• Experience working with or for Indigenous governments and communities to deliver community-driven projects and programs
• Bachelors or Master’s degree in an exact science (Biology, Ecology etc.) or relevant social science (public policy, law, etc.) with experience directly relevant to the scope of this position (i.e. a combination of post-secondary education or training and relevant work experience may be considered)

Nice to Have

• Fluency in Indigenous language(s) and/or French
• Experience working in a virtual office
• Experience managing project budgets

Other Requirements

Given the virtual nature of CIER’s work, the successful candidate must have access to a secure and reliable internet connection and a laptop with fully functional WIFI capability. A valid class 5 license is required.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and is negotiable. Although preference will be given to Indigenous applicants (including First Nations, Métis and Inuit), all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply (please identify yourself in the cover letter).
