Hiring: Climate Change Associate (two positions available)

The chosen candidates will be keen to join our team to support implementation of a multi-year initiative in the areas of climate change and community energy conservation and infrastructure retrofits. This role of Climate Change Associate is best suited for an individual that can work closely and collaboratively in a team setting but is also a motivated self-starter in accomplishing project work. We look for people with ideas and a strong commitment to problem solving. Although most of your time will be supporting green energy and other climate change initiatives (70%), you will support other CIER initiatives (30%) as well. CIER is an Indigenous-led, culturally diverse collaborative organization whose mission is to work in partnership with Indigenous peoples and governments to support sustainable Indigenous communities and to protect lands and waters. CIER is very interested in people who understand and embrace decolonization and community empowerment, who are comfortable working with a team of people of diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, and experiences, and who enjoy reconciliation work between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. 

CIER personnel work in a virtual office setting and we offer flex work arrangements. This position will include travelling to remote communities and urban centres on a regular basis.

Essential Skills 

EducationBachelor’s degree or diploma in a relevant science (especially energy related sciences) or social science discipline or, with experience directly relevant to the scope of this position (i.e. a combination of post-secondary education or training and relevant work experience will be considered).​ 
Experience· Experience in at least one of the following fields:
– Net-zero carbon programs 
– Energy conservation 
– Retrofit programs
– Renewable Energy (solar power, wind, etc.)
· Experience working within Indigenous organizations.
· Experience working with or for Indigenous governments to deliver community-driven projects and programs.
· Experience working with federal government program reporting. 
Knowledge· An understanding of Indigenous histories, rights and title, environmental issues, policies and laws. 
· An understanding of climate change, energy and energy conservation and retrofit programs, etc. 
Skills and Abilities· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
· Excellent research skills.
· Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office applications.
· Ability to multi-task with limited supervision.
· Friendly, optimistic disposition with strong interpersonal skills.
· Ability to engage in and manage cross-cultural relationships.
· Attention to detail and deadlines. 
Nice to Have· Fluency in a second language (French or an Indigenous language(s))
· Experience working with google docs, Microsoft Teams, Zoom.
· Experience working in a virtual office 

Other Requirements 
Given the virtual nature of CIERs work, the successful candidate must have access to a secure and reliable internet connection and a laptop with fully functional WIFI capability.  A valid class 5 license is required. Travel to large urban centres as well as small Indigenous communities is required. Candidates must reside and be eligible to work in Canada at the time of applying and remain in Canada for the duration of their contract. 

Compensation range is between $54K to $60K annually, in addition we offer a full benefit package and a wellness package. Although preference will be given to Indigenous applicants (including First Nations, Métis and Inuit so please identify yourself in the cover letter), all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
