Indigenous Communities are shaping the future of energy — Join us this November

This November, CIER and The LEAP Group are bringing the Energy InSites community together in Calgary for the Energy InSites Symposium, taking place November 25–26, 2026, at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on Tsuut’ina Nation.

Attendees are to include community leaders and representatives, Energy Champions, youth, technical experts, funders, service providers, Indigenous-owned businesses, and sector partners for two days of learning, relationship-building, and collaboration.

Through Energy InSites, CIER and The LEAP Group support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in modernizing and improving energy efficiency of community buildings and homes. The process includes energy assessments and building retrofit planning, energy efficiency, and support to identify and secure funding. More than improving buildings, the goal is to help communities understand their options, make informed decisions, and move forward on the priorities that matter to them.

At the heart of Energy InSites is a relationship-based approach grounded in Indigenous leadership. CIER walks alongside communities as they identify and implement their priorities, connecting them with technical expertise, funding opportunities, and trusted partners while keeping community decision-making at the centre.

The symposium will build on this approach, creating space to:

  • Learn from community and technical experience.
  • Connect with others advancing community energy priorities.
  • Explore practical energy efficiency, retrofit, and building solutions.
  • Discover funding opportunities and potential partnerships.
  • Share lessons, challenges, and successes.
  • Build relationships that can turn ideas into action.

The symposium will also feature an interactive tradeshow, connecting communities and Energy Champions with organizations working in energy, building retrofits, infrastructure, and sustainability. Indigenous-owned businesses, community enterprises, and social enterprises will have opportunities to connect directly with communities seeking trusted partners and practical solutions.

The Energy InSites Symposium is about more than sharing information. It is about building the relationships, knowledge, and capacity needed for communities to create healthier, more efficient, and more resilient buildings and energy systems, on their own terms. Join us this November!
